Here at radio24, we are dedicated to bringing a diverse range of music to a large worldwide audience. The radio24 project began late last year when we began planning the ultimate online radio experience. Since then, we have put out five of our planned channels, but the rest have simply stayed in limbo since.
It is because of this that we are doing a mass upgrade of radio24 in one hit. We were meant to have had a lot of the content already up on radio24, but because of many factors which have affected us work has been slowed.
We are, however, working to bring a grand total of 40 new channels to radio24! Of these, one will be a live channel, one will be a broad channel and the remaining 38 will be music channels specific to one genre.
The live channel (live24) has actually been setup for a long time now, but due to lack of DJs we have not been able to get enough air time. We are aiming for 12 hours daily streaming by the end of the year, with live24 being around 24 hours streaming daily by mid next year.
The new broad channel is one that we had a short while ago but pulled due to lack of content. world24 will be our stream dedicated to non-english music. We will be having a "Sounds of the World" event soon, showcasing great music from different countries of the world.
And the remaining 38 channels will be all specific to one genre. Here is the list of the channels we will be adding:
acoustic24 - Acoustic music of all genres
alterna24 - Alternative Rock
avant24 - Avant-garde / Experimental
blues24 - Blues
broad24 - Musicals and broadway
country24 Country and bluegrass
digi24 - Ambient/digital
easy24 - Easy listening
hip24 Hip Hop
house24 - House
industrial24 - Industrial rock, metal and techno
jazz24 - Jazz
laughout24 - Comedy
metal24 - Metal/Heavy Metal
new24 - New Age
punk24 - Punk Rock
rap24 - Rap
swing24 - Swing
The remaining 20 will be announced shortly.
As for the new features on the site, we will be adding a forum, the chatroom will be going up finally, and the way you listen will advance a lot more.
We are currently working on a new system that actually displays a webpage in Windows Media Player when you listen in through that method. The page that will be displayed will show song info and the request line, so that listening is a much easier, more integrated experience.
Speaking of request lines.. We are finally going to be adding one! live24 will be the first of the channels to have one, but we are working on systems on the other channels so that you listeners can request songs that are on the server (you will be able to browse through the songs/artists) and then it will automatically be put on the queue and played within a certain time frame (we are aiming for around a 3-4 song wait at most, sooner at low-peak times).
Thanks for listening in and I hope you're looking forward to what's coming to radio24!
